Myxobolosis
Symptoms
The sick fish swim slowly, gather on the surface of water, open the gill, and form cyst on gill.
Fish may die from interruption of breathing by the forming of large cyst.
Cause
It is caused by Myxobolus, a kind of parasitism which called Myxosporea.
It can be seen that the gill is opening, cheek is swollen, so the disease is also called “cheek swelling disease”.
The spore of Myxobolus as we known in Koi is water-drop shaped.
Countermeasure
So far, no effective way to cure, but it can be healed by itself.
To disinfect the pond is also effective.
